Last Christmas

For the holiday romance fans, we must add Last Christmas to the holiday watchlist. It is the second holiday film for Emilia Clarke who is mostly known for playing “Daenerys” in Game of Thrones and matched perfectly with Henry Golding from the hit film, Crazy Rich Asians. In Last Christmas, Kate (Clarke) is a young woman subscribed to bad decisions. Working as an elf in a year-round Christmas store is not good for the wannabe singer. However, she meets Tom (Golding) there. Her life takes a new turn--that seems too good to be true.

  • Emilia Clarke did her own singing in this movie.

  • Filmed on-location in London. To avoid crowds interrupting filming, many scenes started filming around 2 a.m

Office Christmas Party

Did you get the email about the Office Christmas Party? I would reply with your RSVP quickly to watch the biggest holiday office party of the year. When an overbearing CEO (Jennifer Aniston) decides to close her hard-partying brother’s failing branch, he (T.J. Miller) and his fired up co-workers (Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, Kate McKinnon) decide to throw an epic office party to land a big shot client and save everyone’s jobs. Fueled by booze and bad decisions, things quickly spiral out-of-control in this raucous and raunchy comedy.

  • There is a sign on Tracey Hughes (Munn)' office wall that reads, "The only stupid questions are the ones you ask me before you ask the Web (or any question before my coffee)."…. #relatable

  • At the conclusion of filming in Atlanta, furniture and props from the set were donated to the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta, a charity that gives away free furniture to people moving into stable housing from homelessness and domestic violence.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Then one-foggy-Christmas-Eve-Santa-came-to-say-Rudolph-with-your-nose-so-bright…. okay, I’ll stop the sing along. A holiday watch list cannot exist without this beloved 1964 classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It is a cherished film for the holidays and adored by many generations. A young reindeer Rudolph lives at the North Pole. His father is one of Santa's reindeer and it is expected that Rudolph will eventually be one too. However, he has a feature which is a setback and causes him to be ostracized: his red nose.

  • Two of the original characters used for the production (Santa and Rudolph) sold at auction in November 2020 for $368,000 to an unknown collector.

The Best Man Holiday

Would you ever guess this romantic comedy holiday film that shipped to theaters under the codename “Roasting Chestnuts”? This leading cast and one of the sequels to the Best Man franchise comes together for The Best Man Holiday. It is filled with your favorite actors including Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut (inspiration for codename?), and more. When college friends reunite after 15 years over the Christmas holidays, they discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be reignited.

  • When the lead male characters sing "Can You Stand the Rain" to the female characters, their reactions are genuine as the director didn't tell the ladies which song the men would sing.

Love Actually

To continue the romantic comedy train, we must add in Love Actually to this list. Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

FUN FACTS

  • The airport greeting footage at the beginning and end of this movie is real. Writer and director Richard Curtis had a team of cameramen film at Heathrow airport for a week, and whenever they saw something that would fit in, they asked the people involved for permission to use the footage.

The Family Man

Who would you prefer as The Family Man, Nicolas Cage or John Travolta? If you chose Travolta, then you might be disappointed. Although, he was set to star in this film at one point, but the role went to Cage. A fast-lane investment broker, offered the opportunity to see how the other half lives, wakes up to find that his sports car and girlfriend have become a mini-van and wife.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Ready to go to Who-ville? To end our holiday fun fact list, Jim Carrey’s version of the Grinch in Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is simply a crime to not add to the list. The Grinch might not be the most favorable character, but Carrey’s portrayal made you like the Grinch for just being himself. On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.

FUN FACTS

  • Jim Carrey spent ninety-two days in Grinch make-up, spending two hours in the morning getting in, and one hour in the evening to get out. According to Carrey, he became a "Zen Master" while sitting in the make-up chair.
