Top 10 Horror Movie Characters

It’s spooky season, my movie loving fam! With that, there’s hundreds of movies that will put us in this October mood including thrillers, suspense, slashers, and the niche genre of demonic possessed dolls and humans. Now, when it comes to horror characters, there are plenty that will give you the shivers just thinking about them.

Don’t worry though, I’ve compiled a list of the best of the worst horror characters that have graced the big screen and probably have appeared in our nightmares at least once. Settle in because the frights are about to begin…

Devil

The greatest thing that the devil has done is made us all believe that he doesn’t exist. Well plot twist - he does. To me, the devil that has made a lasting and terrifying impact in the film world is Pazuzu from The Exorcist. It didn't matter how many priests were sent to exorcize him, Pazuzu was determined to reign control and cause absolute chaos.

Doll

The doll that has been the talk of the town lately is taking the crown of the best horror doll we’ve ever seen. And yes, I’m talking about the dancing sensation, M3GAN. This killer doll is evolving from the AI doll to be a child’s best friend to a doll with a life of its own. Friendship will be forever evolved and we should all learn that every decision has its consequences…

Vampire

Okay hear me out. I never thought we needed Nicolas Cage as Draclua, but now I know what we were missing out on. In the 2023 horror comedy, Renfield, the world is being turned upside down when Renfield aka Dracula’s henchman is looking to break ties with his narcissistic boss. But in true vampire style, Dracula will not go down without a dramatic and horrific fight.

Werewolf

To be honest, there hasn’t been a great werewolf to grace the horror movie world in quite some time. But thanks to Teen Wolf for showing us that being a high school kid needs more complications like learning that the werewolf gene runs in the family. I feel like if all werewolves were just like Scott Howard, maybe we’d be less terrified of what happens when a full moon comes.

Witch

Top magical family? Easy. Sally and Gillian Owens take my number one spot of the best witches to ever exist. In Practical Magic, this sister duo are taking the spirit world head on when the men that they fall for get wrapped into a death curse. Now, these witches are out for vengeance while trying to steer a detective away from the chaos. 10/10 would want to be friends with these two.

Animal

If you weren’t afraid of what is lurking under the water, well, you’re about to be. The most terrifying animal in my book is Megalodon. You can find this prehistoric shark threatening to attack in The Meg. Now, I know that this movie is seen as an action fantasy, but after watching this, it’s a horror movie through and through and will make you think twice about jumping into the ocean.

Slasher

Oh you’re looking for the best slasher and didn’t think I’d mention my guy Ghostface?! As the main antagonist in the over 20 year Scream saga, this halloween masked stalker has done his fair share of taunting. For real, this guy knows how to hold out for a vengeance and unfortunately has some impressive skills with his bowie knife.

Monster

There’s a lot of movie monsters we’ve been introduced to throughout the years including Pinhead, Godzilla, and Clover. But the one that takes the crown on my list are the Listeners/Creatures/Death Angels that are lurking in A Quiet Place. C’mon, a monster that will attack solely on a noise that you made is absolutely terrifying.

Zombie

We don’t see too many zombies come to life in movies, but when we do, they have a lasting impact. In The Dead Don’t Die, the sleepy little town is dealing with people coming out of their graves to attack the living. Now, this movie isssss a comedy, but we both know that if this were to happen in real life, we’d all be running for survival.

Ghost

I’ve saved the best for last. The ghost that is a known legend is no other than Candyman. This ghost knows nothing better than revenge once he is summoned. Just know that if you speak his name five times or see some bees coming your way, something sinister is about to appear.
